Literacy: Students wrote stories using this prompt. This is the first story they have written this year! Math: We finished off our coordinate geometry unit. Students made cities maps on a coordinate plane and then created questions for other students to try and answer on their map.    Students also did a Math Show What You Know.  Social Studies: We continued learning about ancient civilizations.  Where were ancient civilizations located on the map?  What were societies called before civilizations were formed? What were they called after they became civilizations? How can inventions benefit society?  Science:  We learned about the four forces that affect airplanes flying.  We tried an experiment to show how air moving over the wings of a plane actually help it lift off the ground. Art: We started a new print relief art project inspired by Canadian artist Leetia Alivaktuk. Students planned their design and then practiced replicating ...

Literacy: Students wrote about their fall break. Our focus this week was adding details like: What was the event or activity? Who did you do it with? Where did you do it? When did you do it? How did it make you feel? Math: We continued working on coordinate geometry! Students practiced making polygons on a coordinate plane and recording the ordered pairs so that a partner could try to recreate the polygon. Students then created a more complex design for Miss Warkentin to try!  We also started working on adding and subtracting decimals. We talked about how place value matters so it's critical to line up the decimals before starting the equation.  Science: We started a new unit on force! We discussed what we already know about force. Then, to get students excited, they made paper airplanes. The catch was there were no instructions! Students had to try and build an airplane all by themselves. For some this was very easy because they had already built them in the past, for o...
